June 15 last night. We spent 4-5 hours in vicinity of Rock Creek Lake. Fished the creek cascading into SW end of Lake, got nice batch of 9-12" rainbows using strongly nymphed gnatton under rocks in stream. Little good cornus meadow available around Lake. Drew took one & cornus near a foggy side course of creek. Mostly clear skies but windy and cool (17-19°C).
No snow left in open area around the lake. We checked two meadows along the way. Flora only.
Returned to Hwy 395 3:30 P.M., geared up at garage Tom's Place (39050). Sounds like worm trail in gear box. Hwy 395 to Devil's Postpile via Mammoth. Clear and cool weather. Considerable snow on slopes of Mammoth Park. Red's meadow area clear of snow except for tiny patches my under trees. Camp at Red's ridge. Campground, 7500 ft.
Night check 8:30-9:45 P.M. of area W of Satcher Lake, Tomist rdwr, and Government rdwr. (Last ran our cornus). Hydr (fluv) calling. Some flora seen but no evidence of cornus activity. Water temp. 15.5°C. We pond (foggy) area; air 7-9°C.
June 16 more extensive check of same meadow areas. Other meadow area around Roger Station rem the Postpile. Clear cool after a fling of hail and rain last night after 10:30 A.M. No signs of cornus. Black-capped chickadees in wilderness along Minnet Creek. (See recording notes for birds). We walked two more meadows along road on way out of Postpile area. Flora only, Thunghis elegans (2) but no frogs. Too early?
