G M Johnston 1948 Brouse 15 May. Seymour Canal, Alaska Pleasant Bay - Since we entered the Bay and anchored about 8 PM. a continual whoooomp, whooomp, whooomp, a low, resonant sound that seems to come from all directions around the bay, has been heard. It has no breaks - contin- ues steadily.. Mr. Kohlwus said it was the Brouse. Whether it is one or a num- ber of brouse making the sound I can't tell. It sounds as though it would be made by only one because of its constancy * but yet it is heard from all parts of the woods perhaps its resonant qual- ty gives it this non- directional aspect. * and unglues of sound coming consecutively in rhythm. 17 May Holkham Bay, Alaska N side Sundum Pen. Same sound heard.
