1948 Marbled Murrelet-
18 Aug. (can't) descending, wheezing
whistle that lasted one sec.
and duration. These were
giving their whistle fre-
quently when they would
surface, but I have heard
them whistle while flying.
They have in the past
week shown a change
in color in some of
the individuals. The white
of the belly and underpart
of the tail has been ex-[illegible]
extended farther on the
sides and over the throat
and sides of the neck. This
white is clean looking.
20 Aug. Hollis Bay, Alaska
Channel NE side Harborland
The sea was dead calm today. One
murrelet when taking off, planed
its body along the surface for
about six feet before lifting
into the air. It used its feet
to paddle as well as its wings.
Once in the air it did not bounce
onto the water.
