JM Johnston 1948 5 Marbled Murrelet 14 Aug (cont) quick wing beat. They seldom fly more than four feet off the surface. Today was calm water and some of these murrelets used the bounces after they had first skittered along the water to help themselves gain flying speed. They really look funny, executing these 4- 5 belly bounces. Some of them didn't use the bounce - just skittered along the water, flopp ing their wings and finally they get up enough speed and off they go. 18 Aug Holkham Bay Alaska Swerls - Entrance to Tracy Arm Six of these little murrelets were seen today in a group that were diving in the swerls and eddies between Pt Kobe and Sumdum Peninsula.
