Marbled Murrelet
9 Aug (cant) water as they go
over. Their short tail seems
to give a flip up.
11 Aug Holkham Bay Alaska
Chan. 300 yds N of Ben's Island.
Row 12 in what might be
called more or less a group. The
bunch was scattered, some close
within a few feet of each other,
others were 30-40 feet apart.
Some shuttered & flew away
as I approached them, others
shuttered away and dived.
They dive not simultaneously
but a few seconds apart
and will surface within
seconds of each other. They
stayed down about 20 seconds.
I chased after them rowing
hard, and they disbanded
more or less in their efforts
to get away, flying off
in somewhat the same
general direction toward
the wider part of the bay
by Harbor Island.
Their flight ca fast (35mp/h)
