Myelwaton 1948 Northern Phalarope lobipes fo patus. Phalaropodidae 4 Aug. Chattam Strait and Fredvck Sound. From Fawkaw Five Finger light - down through the Straight to Port Alex - on an average of about one flock in every half hour, a flock of these (banndeling size) shore birds have been seen. They fly in flocks of 25-100 keeping always about 6-8 feet off the water. They fly fast with quiple (wavy beat) their bellies are white - back a dirty gray-white. They have the character- istic flocking flight of Sandpipers - all wheeling together to the left or right. These birds seen as much out in the open passages as well near the shore lines. Frequently seen floating on the water.
