JM Johnston 1948 Herring Gulls Larus argentatus 5 7 Aug Holkham Bay, Alaska Hohlhase's Fox Farm These gulls, with Glaucous and Glaucous winged, can be heard at any time of the day, until late dusk. Duttering their calls from all parts of the Bay. One can usually hear a concentration of their calls coming from 2 or 3 lo- calized direction.. Upon search, one will see a flock of 15 or more gathered around a spot on the water, some in the air others on the water. Much noise & activity. These are feeding on kill f 13 Aug. Holkham Bay Alaska. sand spit S of Sundrum Pen. This spit runs about a mile out into the Bay. The end has a high place which be- comes a small island as the tide rises. The gulls will sit on this spit, facing the wind until the rising tide moves them
