JM Golmston 1948. Great Blue Heron Ardea herodias Ardeidae 26 July. Petersburg, Alaska Ardea Fur Farm Petersburg Creek. One was seen flying northward from the flats up the creek. It was dusk, 1/2 hr after sundown. The heron was flying at about 100 ft Elevation. It alighted on the top of a conifer that had had the upper branches knocked off, so that the branches on which the bird perched were stout (2-3 in diam). 29 July. Same as above. This G.B. Heron was wading at the waters edge in the mud flat like slough south west of the ranch. The tide was flooding. 8 Aug. Holkham Bay, Alaska. Southern point of Harbor Island. One flew from Bens' Is. to Harbor Island perched on the limb of a spruce 20 feet from the ground. 75 ft from where I stood. stayed a minute, then flew west over ths.
