Johnston Herring and other Large Gulls. +Aug Chatham Strait Off Security Bay Roosting on the vertical piling and the horizontal stringers of a fish trap. I saw the largest flock of these gulls that I have encountered in the last few days. (200 in the group) Yesterday, I saw a few (about 10) of these gulls flying over the channel near Kake. Kake is a native village situ- ated near a salmon cannery. No doubt these gulls are the first of the general population to return from the nesting grounds.
