JM Johnston 1948 Hair Seals 3 12 June that break off of the Glacier, and mill around in the counter current near the north wall of the Arm, a herd of about 150 real lay like large saus- age. They lie on the low flat topped bergs which afford places for them to crawl up onto the bergs. This was about 1:30 P.M. The sun was shining bril- liantly, the reflection of the side of the almost vertical walls of the Arm intensified the heat so that we had to strip to our T-shirts to feel comfortable. Wind was dead calm. Within three seconds after the first shots were fired at them, the whole herd was in the water. We hunted them in this area for the next four hours About 4:00 P.M. a wind commenced to blow off the glacier made us put on every available piece of clothing. It blew at about 125 Kts and was icy cold. Sun still shining
