necessarily represent [illegible] the same number of different
birds, but they do indicate the relative population sizes
to activity. Also of interest is the increase in
number of females: May 17, none; May 22, 9 f : 22 m;
May 25: 16 f : 20 m.
Two Rosy Finches & 3 Rock
Ptarmigan (1 pair & 1 female) were also seen on the
plots.
Beach Ridge Plots - increased activity and numbers of
Lapland Longspurs (May 18, 3 f : 8 m; May 22, 2 f : 7 m; May 25,
9 f : 14 m). Two Rock Ptarmigan (pair)
were seen just off
the plots.
Rifle Range Lake Census
2 pair Common Goldeneyes
1 pair Red-breasted Mergansers
2 m Mallards
4 m Pintails
7 f Pintails
Rifle Range Beach.
Hawcous-winged Gulls - common 100 yds off-
shore.
Bald Eagle - one [illegible] perched on top edge of cliff.
Bar-tailed Godwit - 7 on beach (gravel)
Common Eiders - approx. a dozen 100 yds off-
shore near rock outcrops just breaking
water surface (high tide).
Pintail - approx. 3 m, 6 m; 100 ft off shore
in partially protected beach (rocks farther
out break surf).
