Journal R.E. Johnson 1968 May 13 Seattle & Olympic National Park Wash. (cont.) Drove back to Port Angeles & west to Crescent Lake. Took a nature trail to get familiar with the vegetation in the rain forest. The Marymere Falls Nature trail starts just east of a ranger station on the lake & wanders 3/4 miles to a 90 ft. beautiful waterfall. Vegetation: Rainforest Overstory: Western Hemlock - Tsuga heterophylla Douglas Fir - Pseudotsuga menziesii Western Redcedar - Thuja plicata Understory: Salmonberry - Rubus spectabilis Salal - Gaultheria shallon Vine Maple - Acer circinatum Yellow Violets Devil's Club Oregon Grape Ferns Stream bed: Red Alder - Alnus rubra Salmonberry Bigleaf - Maple - Acer macrophyllum Western Red Cedar Winter Wrens could be heard near the streams and I thought I heard a Dipper. Drove on down toward Port Angeles & Stopped at Dawn Lake near the park entrance. There were 2 Swans (tame?), 2 Biddy Ducks, & a & Bufflehead on the lake. Swallows were very-
