Journal 150 R.E.Johnson 1968 July 5 Anadutka Island, Alaska shoreline vegetation, + 1 pair. oo Total = 1 pr., 17o, q+3yng, q+4yng. Greater Scaup - 3 pair, 4 o Mallard - 1 pair Northern Phalarope - 1 o ; another o in a Red-throated Loon - one small adjacent pond. Lapland Longspur nest containing 5 young with the q on the nest (raining) located a short way from road toward strip of veg. that almost separates Pumphouse lake into two lakes. Nest at edge tall grass. of Looked at Clover Lake at 7 pm - no birds. The waterline has dropped so that shoreline vegetation, which might otherwise provide shelter for bird, is no longer available to them but is perched 1-2 feet above shoreline. July 6 Anadutka Island, Alaska Longspur Checked nests on the riparian plots. One nest (2-4) had been destroyed by rats (5 yng 6-8 inches from nest badly dead). chewed & Drumner Lake census Greater Scaup - 8 o Rosy Finch - collected one o with full buccal goudes. Lapland Longspur - collected 2o & 2 q for Williamson. Ran out of gas! Late to lunch. Bald Eagle Nests on Constantine Harbor - south side:
