R.E. Johnson 1968 78 Journal June 8 Anchitka Island, Alaska (cont.) In the evening I examined nests where Rosy finches were approaching fledging (Nests # 6, 9, 12, 23, 30, 32, 35, +36) and more had fledged. at 10:40 PM I visited nest 9 and the young was quiet & an adult roosting above the doorway I entered, but didn't rouse until I passed out the door again, at which time it flew suddenly out a window behind me. It was dark inside the bldg, but quite light outside & Longspurs were still active. Bob collected a Tufted Duck in Graman Lake this evening. Weather today, and for past 2 days, has been exceptionally good. Semisopochnoi Island is again visible. In afternoon checked the Rock Sandpiper Nest again, & on nest, but flushed when I was 2 feet away taking pictures. Still has four unhatched eggs. June 9 Anchitka Island, Alaska Slept in till near noon. We are finally having a real rain storm, the 1st since I've been on Anchitka. Feels good on the face. Put off censusing the Beach & Dry Tundra plots due to the rain. Checked Rosy Finch nests 4, 6, 9, 12, 23, 27, 30, 32, 35, 36, 37.
