R.E. Johnson 1966 Journal 38 West Fork Yaak River, 5000 ft., Lincoln Co., Montana (cont.) June 29 Vegetation along the lower part of the Davis Creek Rd consisted of Lodgepole Pine, Douglas Fir, Western Larch, & White Firs overstory and Menziesia, Bear Grass, Thimleaf Alder, & Mtn. Ash as understory. A Boreal Chickadee, Cassin's Finch (# 65), & a Frog were collected. Oregon Juncos, Chipping Sparrows, Clark's Nutcrackers, Western Tanagers, Pine Siskins, Red- breasted Nuthatches, Townsend Warblers, & Varied Thrushes were seen. Between road's end and the small waterfall (30 ft. high) upcreek, Hermit Thrushes were heard & Four were collected. The slopes above the - creek to the west are open with few trees and considerable rock. Small brooks flow down in several places. Alder is the dominant ground cover, but a few larch & alpine Fir occur. Birds include White-crowned Sparrow, Audubon Warbler, Fox Sparrow, & Olive-sided Flycatcher. Glacier Lilys were present is some places. Above the waterfall, the creek extends up a short, open, rocky valley toward Davis Mtn. Beargrass & willows were common ground cover but patches of forest also occur. A Cassin's Finch (Imm., # 64) was taken while singing from the top of a snag. I ascended the ridge top leading to Davis Mtn. Considerable snow remains on its
