R.E.Johnson 1967 Journal 48 June 30 Wizard Island, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon (cont.) Pewee, Cassin's Finch, Red-breast Nuthatches, & Spotted Sandpipers. Shoreline is rocky and has many insects (dead) floating in the water. June 30 Llao Rock, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon I was ferried to the base of the rock & I climbed up to the base of the main vertical diffs. No Rosy Finches. Rock Wrens & Dusky Flycatchers were common. The rocks were very hot to the touch. Its hard to believe rosy finches could occur here except is places with afternoon shade. June 30 Garfield Peak, Dyar Rock, Crater Lake Nati Park, Oregon Hiked from the lodge after dinner & remained until after sunset. Saw no Rosy Finches. Rosy Finches have been scarce in the places I've been the last 2 days, perhaps its not the locations but the change in weather (hotter). Mosquitos have increased with the heat. I'm now rather bumpy! Four does & a fawn were laying east of Dyar Rock on the meadow at 7:45 PM & long shadows from Garfield Pk. had almost reached the rock. At 9PM a Fox crossed the meadows heading east.
