persistently followed up birds until he was satisfied as to
their identity and often finally would enter his record with
notes or a question mark.
Knowledge of his death, which occurred near Salinas I
believe, came as a personal matter. My experiences with him
afield were always filled with real sport and usually some
rewarding record. That part of his small but thoroughly used
library of bird and, to a very small extent, botanical books
which escaped the hasty sale made by his aunt came to my
possession and now forms a part of my own library.
