Recurvirostra americana
Nov. 3; Bay Farm Island, Alameda Co., Calif.
As the tide began to recede from the
flooded fields at the [illegible] west end
of the island, avocets flew in from
the east in flocks of 10 or 12 and
alighted. They feed by dipping the
bill in the water and swinging it from
side to side.
