The latter three species were seen in
a clump of willows surrounded by a
thick growth of star thistle. Also noted
in this area were the other Fringillids
mentioned.
The white-fronted geese were noted only
infrequently in the morning; perhaps
they left the refuge area early to
feed elsewhere. Canada Geese were
seen most often, and Snow Geese were
a close second. A flock of 3 very
small white geese were doubtless
Ross geese, as they seemed very little
larger than the ducks with which they
were associated. Two dead and partly
eaten (by coyote? coon?) Ross geese were
found nearby, as well as about 10
snow geese, one Branta c. minima,
and 2 white-fronts.
