May 26 (cont'd). At 6:45 P.M. I heard
a tattoo from a big dead pine a few
yards from nest #6, I saw a bird
leave the tree but it flew out of sight
right away.

May 27. I have had to come into
Alturas for more car repairs, so I
will use this time to summarize
my data so far. I have 7 prs.
of birds located, numbered from 1
to 8. Pair #4 has not been seen
since first noted, nor has their pros-
pective nest hole been worked on.
