3 mi. S. of Calipatria - 180 ft., Imperial Co.,
Calif.
April 6. - I visited the Game Refuge here
briefly between 12:30 and 1:15 P.M. The
weather was clear and hot. In the
pond near the headquarters I saw a
few coots and two Black-necked Stilts.
Red-wings were very conspicuous, especially
singing, displaying males. Two Western
Kingbirds were nearby and noisy.
In a clump of willows along a
ditch I saw Pileolated Warblers (2-3),
Audubon Warblers (many - spring plumage),
Orange-crowned Warbler (1), Bullock
Oriole (1♂), Gila Woodpecker (at least
1♀), White-crowned Sparrow (numerous),
Mourning Dove (several pairs), Western
Flycatchers (presumably - several), and
a number of Abert Towhees.
