Howell, T.R. 1950 Journal 3mi. S. Calipatria - 180 ft. Imperial Co., Calif. Jan 26 cont'd. and White-faced Glossy Ibis - no Mt. Plover. A survey of the ponds near the road revealed Baldpates, Shovellers, Coots, and one Black Gallinule seen crossing the road. Also, Road-runners were seen in the brush and fields. I did not see any Gila Wood- peckers, but Dawson did. Orange-crowned Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets seen. At dusk a flock of about 26 Yellow- headed Blackbirds, M's and F's, was seen passing over toward the west. The ducks, ibis, and herons mentioned on previous pages were also seen, and quite a few Black-crowned Night Herons were seen and heard. Jan 27 - clear, very cold, sub-freezing, at dawn, Cactus Wren, Phainopepla, Verdin, Say Phoebe, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher conspicuous around camp. All the birds noted yesterday were seen again today, and in addition we saw one Crissal Thrasher, one Sage Thrasher, and a few Yellow-throats. By the flooded fields we saw one Burrowing Owl, and in the fields at least 9 Mountain Plover and one Lesser Yellow-legs in addition to the gulls, ibis, herons and shore birds of yesterday, but no Hudsonian Curlew. At dusk, a flock of Yellow-headed Blackbirds was seen heading east. We heard a Horned Owl, and another, unidentified owl (long-eared?) at night.
