July 17 Patterson, 200 ft., Benton Co., Wash. Waters edge, the young dove re-appeared in the water and swam out about 25 feet from shore. Then returned to the shore downstream after a succession of short dives. It was quite evident that the bird could not fly and its attempt to protect itself was interesting to watch. Other birds seen at this locality were Meadowlarks, Blackbirds, Kingbirds [illegible] Ravens, Crows and a Red Shafted Flicker. July 2 At noon we moved camp and drove east to Patterson and made camp on Hallbergs ranch located about 1/2 mi south of Patterson on the bank of the Columbia. Pears were the principal crop on the ranch. Our camp site was overgrown with large black locusts. After camp was set up,
