Hopper 1939 Ligodamys waterus July 31 N.E. edge of Alkali Lake, 4200 ft. Lake Co., Orng. Two specimens were caught (both ♂) out of 52 museum special traps set in this area. The area in which the traps were set was dry and sandy. The soil was nearly white and very alkaline. Numerous dunes of light brown sand were also found in the area. Sage brush and greasewood was the only vegetation. My trap line covered all of these types of soil, it extended N W from our camp site. Traps were set at 20 pace intervals. Some traps were baited with prunes, some with peanut butter but most of them with oats.
