Hooger 1934 E. Tennesseensis July 8 Brookside. Flying Squirrel. I also observed an animal feeding near camp. When I first approached he ran from the top of a log to the ground and disappeared from view behind the log. After I had remained quiet for about 2 minutes he reappeared and began feeding on the ground about 10 feet away. In [illegible] feeding, [illegible]. The animal [illegible] came within 4 feet of me and at no time did it appear to detect my presence. In feeding, the animal thoroughly examined almost everything in its path with its nose close to the ground but looking up at regular intervals in observation. For the animal saw moved to a cigarette butt which I had just crushed.
