Hooper, 1936 Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. June 8, skin only 542 Sciurus 530-240-66-30 The above specimen was donated to M.V.Z. by Mr. E. Lowell Sumner Jr., the collector. It was found on June 8, 1936," on the Woodside - La Honda Road (the new, paved route) about 2 mi. east of the Skyline Blvd. and 3 1/2 mi. S.W. of Woodside, San Mateo Co., Calif. Altitude at place where found, about 1200 ft. Specimen had been run over by an auto, evidently that morning prior to 8 H.M.; fleas still present and active. Locality where found is characterized by dense stands of redwoods in the shaded canyons; madrone, live oak, elderberry and ceanothus on the more exposed ridges; Baccharis gilicularis and poison oak on the rather infrequent open slopes. The locality is about 5 miles, airline, from the valley land of Burlingame - San Mateo - Palo Alto, and is about 1100 ft. higher; the country is heavily wooded, very sparsely settled, and wildlife conditions have not been greatly modified by man." This information in "quotes" was copied word for word from a large tag accompanying the specimen. The data was recorded on the tag by Mr. Sumner.
