Dipodomys venustus
2 mi. SW Saratoga, 2000 ft., Santa Clara Co., Calif.
July 8-11, 1938
Though more have been taken by Feathers previously here, these are those for which I have definite trap site records:
163 trap sites in old apple and plum orchards and along dusty road netted 14.
Feathers took 1 in 60 traps in a grape vineyard grown with 1 1/2 ft. + dried grass; this 1 was probably taken when the grass was not this high.
Their burrows are abundant at roads and trails, along cut banks, on top of ridges where the growth is not too rank and grass not high.
3 mi. NE summit mt. Hamilton, Diablo Cr.,
2200 ft., Santa Clara Co., Calif.
July 12,
2 taken in 45 traps. 1 caught on sandy plain flood plain of creek near (3 ft.) cloverland composed of Ceanothus cuneatus chiefly.
The other caught on dry, SW facing slope under C. cuneatus or Cercocarpus betuloides, some dried grass.
