Hooper Citellos beeheyi I was beeleyi, as regards dorsal coloration. Saw many (+10), shot three (1 juv.) at Nmi. & SE Crockett. All of these were beeleyi. They were seen intermittently all this area traveled yesterday - any where there were exposed, warm slopes, grass- not too high; both in dry, hard soil and sandy soil (near Canada de los Poblamos and Briones Valley - on Marsh Cr. Rd.) and where there was not a heavy growth of any vegetation (trees, shrubs or grass). - dougleen - On north side found a ground squirrel dead on road; hit by car - this about 3 mi. E Fairfield. Noted none on the island (Sherman). Probably they don't range quite to the marshes on the north side of the bay. West field margins (or rolling hills) evidently could support them. July 7-12, 1938 A resident of region near Lunitas Cr., San Mateo Co., said there were a few of this species in the hills back (+ 1 1/2 mi.) from the ocean. Saw none in Santa Cruz mountains. Seen to summit of Mt. Diablo Hamilton; wherever not brushy but grassland.
