ning over the hillside.

Saw workings on ditch or plough
slough bisecting Salicoria fields.
This near railroad embankment (+50 ft.)
Arroyo Mocho, Santa Clara & Alameda Counties.

Saw three young animals at as many
places along the creek from about 2800
feet down to near the mouth in Livermore
Valley.
Aside Carquinez Straits, vicinity of Crockett,
Contra Costa County.

Hunted squirrels on the hills from just
west of the bridge (Carquinoz) east to a bit
over 1 mi. E of Crockett. Hills low grass-
covered - grass in most places + 2 ft. tall.
Saw no squirrels in this grass. Only in
areas completely devoid of vegetation or
almost denuded intermingled with gassy
areas were there squirrels. All grass (=
gramineae) is now quite dead. Saw 2
squirrels just W of the bridge. At least
