July 9, Left Berkeley July 7 at 2 P.M., picked up Dawson & others in San Leandro, drove across San Mateo Bridge to Skyline Blvd., thence north to Sharp Park road to coast; thru Sharp Park and Moss Beach to first camp at N side Halfmoon Bay, 1/2 mi. N Pillar Pt., San Mateo Co., Calif. After 1 mile's trapping, there drove on thru Halfmoon Bay (town) San Gregorio, Pescadero to Gajoz Cr. road (about 5 mi. S Pescadero), thence over this road to Big Basin, up to Skyline Blvd. and Saratoga (Santa Clara Co.); camp now on property of R.R. Stewart. Now to go back a bit: stopped at several places along coast highway (#1) to look for Aplodontia burrows: near Montara, Purisima, Gajoz Cr. Found country likely (vegetation favorable) but no burrows. Open grasslands not so abundant as north of bay from Marinto Sonoma Co. along coast. Chaparral areas more numerous, canyons deeper; much of the tillable ground (on all of it) grown to artichokes and peas - little pastureage. For vegetation types see U.S.F.S. and U.C.
