June 23,
This area probably was a seepage spot
now dry.
On Mt. Helena, as on Mt. Tassajara,
Mt. Disblo + Mt. Hamilton, the top of the
mountain is evidently lower zonally, than
are the lower needles. On top and
down S side dense thickets of Adenostoma
and Arctostaphyus exist. In sheltered
canyons and on north side are:
redwoods, Douglas fir, madrone, alder,
bay, deciduous oak =?, Some Coulter
pine down lower and, as well, also
present on floor of upper Napa Valley.
June 24: 2 mi. E Stewarts Point, Sonoma Co., Calif.
Drove north past main highway (road
to Guadala) and turned east on Shaggy-
Stewarts Point road. Are now camped
in typical redwood association. Good
redwood stands were noted where we
passed over the summit to direct coastal
drainage. The chaparral belts - of
mangarita and Adenostoma, briefly -
were restricted to drier more exposed
slopes. Last site I set out traps in
4 situations, as follows + with these
results thus a M: 27 traps at 1/4 mi. E
