Hooper,
1937
Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif.
June 1,
by Dr. Beck (?) of Philadelphia - the
largest in the world. I invited Tony
and Carl Bleifus to visit M.D.Z.
Bleifus is an interesting person. About
43 yrs. old, but with the vigor and
intense interest in his work of a child,
he is a "natural naturalist." With
no scientific training whatever, with
only a natural curiosity to see
"what things are", and "what makes
tem go" he has information at hand
which makes one listen. He has a large
collection of fresh deer heads (about
50) all well labeled and mounted.
His chief interest at present is fossils.
In the fossil collection he has examples
of many plant and animal stuff -
mostly animal. All specimens are
appropriately cataloged - a number
stake on the specimen which refers to
a page in our leather-bound loose-
leaf notebooks. Of particular interest
to me was a grizzly bear skull
found in San Benito County. It is a
good specimen - minus lower jaws +
a part of a zymastic arch. Dana sending
him some M.D.Z. publications today.
