Hooper, 1936 3 mi. S Mt. Rose, 8500 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. Aug. 5. This morning for coney. Found a rock slide about 1/4 mi. west and 500 ft. higher than the meadow (bordering a branch of Incline Cr.) on which we are now camped. Shot 1 Ochotona and 1 Marmota. Marmots are comparatively abundant in the rock slides. Saw 2 in adult pelage and 3 in juvenile pelage. Callospermophilus, [illegible] , Eutamias quadrivittatus frater, & E. amoenus are abundant. Noted mountain chickadee, junco, Cassin finch (shot 1 - was being courted by a female - later saw -> mounting & ?) red-shafted flicker, Clark nutcracker, crested jay, olive-sided flycatcher (heard only), ash-throated? flycatcher (heard only), wood pewee, turkey vulture, robin, chipping sparrow, white-crowned sparrow, and mountain bluebird. Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. Left camp on Incline Cr. at about 7:30 A.M. Drove around the north end of Lake Tahoe through Tahoe City then down Truckee River Canyon to Auburn-Truckee Highway. Followed this highway thru Auburn-Sacramento to Davis where we lunched. Reached M.S.F. at 3:30 P.M.
