Hooper, 1936. 3mi. S Mt. Rose, 8500ft., Washoe Co., Nev. Aug. 5, Moved camp the afternoon of Aug. 3. Drove back across the valley to Fanning where spent the night. Broke a spring on the Rio, so could not drive down valley to farms - looking for geckers - as planned. Yesterday, Aug. 4, drove back across the Wash Humboldt Range to Oreana (on main highway). Shot a Cnemidophorus on the sand among Arte- sesia tridentata , approx. 1 mi. E of Oreana. From Oreana moved south to Lovelock where had spring fixed, & secured gas, water, groceries & mail, & lunch. Left Lovelock at about 1 P.M. drove thru Wadsworth, Sparks to Reno, south along highway toward Carson City to first road to right which lead to Mt. Rose. Are now camped about 3 mi. S of the summit of this peak. Zone here mostly Canadian. Recognize Pinus contorta , Picea engelmanni, Abies concolor, abies magnifica, Pinus monticola and aspen, and manzanita. Weather here cool - es- pecially in contrast to heat recently experienced in desert. Shower last night (with hail) and this noon. Hunted
