S base Granite Peak, East Range, Pershing Co., Nev.
Aug. 2,
Moved camp yesterday to the above
locality. Drove south to Oseana, turned
east over a low pass into Buena Vista
Valley. Spent last night near the dry
lake in floor of valley. Drove up here
this A.M. Are now camped in a
clump of buffalo brush & wildrose.
A small stream (t. 4 gal. per min.) flows
turn here. Slopes away from stream
dominated by Artemesia tridentata on
occasional Parabolus is present. The
slopes of Granite Peak are comparatively
thickly covered (for western Nevada)
with junipers. Shot a Crotaphytus
on the flat near the dry lake. Noted
antelope squirrels there. Shot one of
these squirrels here at camp.

Went up one of the canyons toward the
summit of Granite Peak. Slopes there densely
covered with junipers & Pinyon pines. A small
