barn. Frightened white-footed mice (Pero-
myscus maniculatus) from the hutches
composed of dried sticks, bones + varied
"addities." Sceloporus were abundant
around rock heaps & houthouses. Saw one
Cnemidophorus under an Artemisia
bush at about 7700 ft. Mr. Smith
presented us with a small striped
racer and a rattlesnake - both collected
at about 7500 ft. The rattler was so
mangled it was discarded. Collected
2 "Callos" at altitudes as given in catalogue.
Microtus mordax has been at least
3 times running from bush to bush. Shot
one specimen. Set two gopher sets,
2 rod traps, + 27 mouse traps this
evening. The gopher diggings were
on an alluvial fan composed of coarse
gravel - little soil. Shot another
M. mordax while setting traps.
Shot a yellow-bellied racer - one of
two which was in "tangle" over the
"ownership" of a mouse carcass.
