Hooper,
1936.
Lmre. W Hansen, 4650 ft., Washoe Co., Nev.
July 15,
"sheeped" but still had a good stand of
grass over it. Ground squirrels were
abundant on the meadow. Their "bark"
or call resembles that of Citellus
feldingi of the Sierra Nevada. In
the Artemesia on the slopes surround-
ing the meadow chipmunks could
be heard "chipping" and could be seen
occasionally. From about 6200 ft.
on up to the meadow, Callospermopsis
lut., Eutamias minimus were found;
seeming to increase in abundance as
altitude increased (along the creek).
Citellus were observed at about 6200 ft.
Shot two squirrels (Citellus) on the
meadow. Returned toward camp by
same route to about 6400 ft. level;
then turned westward over dry ridges
to cover other aspen thickets. Jumped
two fawns and one doe (?). Saw the
doe just as she was disappearing over
a ridge about 150 yds. away. Noted
that the rump region was markedly
white. Deer sign was abundant in
each alder thicket searched. Russell
set two gopher sets at about 6000 ft.
Left them for 4 hours but caught no gophers.
