Went deer + squirrel hunting with
Russell during the morning of July
13. Followed Rock Cr. up to near the head
waters of the creek. Several small
springs+tributaries feed the stream. At
each one of these water sources older,
birch, and aspen grow in thick stands.
These trees also occur all along the
main creek. At about 5300 ft. we saw
± 8 jays of the California jay general
shot one bird (jay) but could not find
it in the dense brush. Shot a Callo-
spermophilus from rocks along the creek
at approximate altitude 6400 ft. At 7000
ft., collected a Bufo in marshy ground
in an Aspen thicket. In this same
thicket we jumped a deer but could
not get a good shot. From boulders near
the creek at 6600, collected a Eutamia
minimus. At the altitude 7425 ft.
there is a large meadow about 3/4 mi.
long and 1/4 mi. wide. It had been
