San Andreas, Calaveras Co., Calif. April 26, I believe this jay hunt concerns, for the most part, the inhabitants of San Andreas. At approximately 3 mi. N of San Murphy, 30 min. was spent at an area in lower Transition - mixed Transition + Upper Ponderosan yellow pine, tanbark oak, and indicators: [illegible] incense cedar mixed with digger pine, Q. wisligenii (?) and hard chaparral. In the chaparral, I noted: Bewick wren, wren tit, Calif. quail, and spotted towhee. On pines and tanbark oak, these birds were seen: Cassin solitary vireo, blackthroated gray warbler, western robin, chipping sparrow, Calif. woodpecker, and stellar jay (1 only). Striped skunk (Droppings were seen here. Sketch showing probable area covered by jay shoot. Concentrated shooting along ooooo. At lunch in Angel Camp.
