San Andreas, Colavers Co., Calif.
April 24,
Wiley seems to have been well educated.
He is at present a mining engineer. The
diagrammatic drawl he uses in speech follows
naturally from contact with the people
of this region.
After conversing with Wiley, M.
Erickson & I returned to main street of
town. Took the last two rooms in
Hotel Trent - the only hotel in town.
April 25,
San Andreas is a town of about 15 or
twenty small stores (including filling
stations & garages. Though this is Saturday,
during the short time we have been in
town the streets have been almost deserted.
The town lies in a small valley near
the N. Fork of Colavera River, a river
of about 10 C.F.S. now at the bridge
just south of town.
The hills about the place are gentle and
rolling, in slope and are covered with
vegetation of the following main kinds:
1. Avena - wild oats abound.
2. P. saliniana - digger pine.
3. M. Arctostaphylus - manzanita.
4. Scrub oak.
