Perhaps streatori chooses rocks for his home site and does not construct huts the size of those built by the coast forms. These old huts found along the San Joaquin River were only two or two and one half feet high. However, quite likely some of the covering material had been removed at the time of the high water. Aug. 13, Last night I set out 25 mouse and 12 rat traps in a different type of habitat. About 1/2 mile north of camp there is an old deserted cabin placed in a sheltered glen near the top of a hill and about 3/8 mi. from any creek bottom. About this house are several outhouses and brush piles, all of which had fresh fecal material and trails seemingly made by wood rats.
