oper, 1935 10 mi. W. Justine, Stanislaus Co., Calif. August 8, owns property on Las Garzas Cr. He kindly offered to let us camp on his property and, since he was planning a trip there later in the afternoon, said he would accompany us himself. At 4 P.M. we left Newman, Stanislaus Co., traveled ten miles over roads boasting in the distant of better days, fast and arrived at his grounds which I will list as Camp 1 selecting since it is here that I will stop for at least two nights. 10 miles W. Justine (and Newman), Stanislaus Co. August 9, About 5 miles north of Merced Co. and 5 miles east of Santa Clara Co. This camp is within the Red Mts. (of the Diablo Range) and is on the east-drainage side. The country here is typically, upper Sonoran zone. Manzanita, Coulter pines, live-oak, ash, and some poison oak are all found here, chiefly on the north- facing slopes. Chenise and Artemesia constitute the dominant plant growth on the south-facing slopes. Birds seen here at camp include the following:
