Perognathus parvus
July 15 1 mi. NE Maryhill, ft. Klickitat Co., Washington
Caught one specimen on the table land
where it rises to the highest point above
the Columbia river. The individual was
trapped along the edge of an old alfalfa
field which had grown up with weeds.
There was abundant sign but apparently
some of this was old.
July 17 4 mi. NE Roosevelt, 200 ft. Klickitat Co., Wash.
Camped and set traps at this locality
last night with the hopes of getting
Dipodomys ordii and some Perognathus. Of
these two, Perognathus only were caught,
but in very large numbers by all
members setting traps. Most of the
specimen were juvenile or young adults.
The country is the low flat dry river
bottom of the Columbia, and is grown up
with Artemisia, Pursh's, cheat grass, etc.,
and a very few willows.
July 18 Paterson, 250 ft. Benton Co., Wash.
Set several along the edge of a
freshly mown alfalfa patch here and
carried one specimen. Others of the
party who set traps in the sand dunes
and drier uncultivated areas got a
much higher percentage catch of this species.
It is apparently abundant here.
