E. Hesse 1979 Journal 7 October SCFS, Nevada Co, California to 1.6 mi N. Chilcoot, Plumas Co. California, and return. 0 wind, 100% clouds. Light rain at ~0300. Night was warm, ~10°C, after clouds gathered. Cooler and clear with a full moon at ~400 when I went to sleep. Left SCFS for desert site at 0550, arriving at 0655. Checked traps: 6 Peromyscus maniculatus 3♂ 3♀, 1 pregnant 5 Microdipodops megacephalus 2♂, 3♀ I had been partly eaten while in trap 2 Dipodomys ordii 1♂ 1♀ 1 Perognathus parvus ♀ 1 Reithrodontomys megalotis ♂ 1 Eutamias minimus ♀ also captured 8 Dipodomys panamintinus on sand flats, Neotoma cinerea on rocky hills. % success = 16/25 = 64%, plus 5 more traps sprung. Kurt Schwenk saw a Sylvilagus sp. (probably nuttallii ?). A roadkill ♀ Erithizon dorsatum was found S. of Chilcoot on the return to SCFS. Spent the rest of the morning putting up study skins and left SCFS for Berkeley at ~1400.
