E. Hieke 1982 Journal Cerro de la Muerte, San José, San José Prov., Costa Rica Aug., cont. caught 3 H. oresterus last time, and 30 where I caught one. Duke set 100 traps - 70 in the forest and 30 in the secondary. It rained on us - lots of fog, occaisional showers (like every half hour!). Finished setting traps at about 1530 and headed on to San José. We'll drive back to check traps in the morning. My second line of 30 caught only 1 Reithrodonomys creper. Perhaps I set them too much in the open (Heteromys-style). It was a cold + rainy night there... Duke was much more successful and caught several animals - 2 H. oresterus as well as 1 Scotinomys teguinus, 2 R. creper, (total Oryzomys sp.) 5 Oryzomys devius, 1 R. sumichrasti, 5 P. nudipes. Several animals died in the traps during the night and we prepared them as study skins, took tissues, etc. before heading back to U.C.R. Spent the rest of the day working in the lab processing animals. San José, San José Prov., Volcan Frazú, Cartago Prov., Costa Rica 8 Aug.
