E. Heske 1982 Journal Cd. Neilly, Puntarenas Prov., Costa Rica 5 Aug. cont. in our bus (~40 km). We decided it wasn't worth the effort and returned to Cd. Neilly. By this time it had become overcast and was threatening to rain. We found an area with a good-looking patch of forest only .4 km S (by rd) of Cd. Neilly. I set 50 traps, [illegible] set 40. The area has some steep slopes + ravines, but a dense canopy of mature trees and lots of vines, herbaceous ground cover. It rained rather hard while we set traps - Returned to Cd. Neilly and spent the night there. The two juvenile Heteromys died during the afternoon and we took tissues + put them up as skeletons. Lots of odd-sounding, and loud, anurans in the area. Some sound like a video game... Cloudy night, some showers, distant lightning. Cd. Neilly, Puntarenas Prov., to San Jos\u00e9, San Jos\u00e9 Prov., CR Aug. Arose 0515. Checked traps - I caught 2 Heteromys, [illegible] caught 5, including 1 partial albino. We had breakfast in Cd. Neilly, then left for San Jos\u00e9 to make sure we get karyotypes for this sample. Stopped briefly in San Isidro, then continued on to our former trap site 2.2 km E (by rd) Trinidad, atop Ceno de la Muerte. We are going to try to catch a few more Heteromys oresterus.
