E. Heske 1982 Journal San José, San Jose Prov., to San Isidro, Puntarenas Prov., Costa Rica 1 Aug. Arose 0500, took Phil + Beth to the airport (their plane left at 0700) - no problems getting through customs at this end- didn't even charge for the extra baggage, live animals carried on plane OK. Duke + I came back to San José, checked out of the hotel, ate breakfast, rented the bus for another week and headed south on Hwy 2 - after stopping by the lab to pick up some gear - by 1000. We found a road kill Sciurus hoffmani near the top of Ceno de la Muerte - skull smashed so we didn't collect it. We arrived in San Isidro at ~1200, stopped and had lunch. We haven't seen much in the way of good trapsites on the way in - not since we got off the mtn. We tried heading towards Dominical, but the road was pretty rough and we decided not to chance 40 km of it with the bus. On Hwy 2 there were a few patches of good-looking forest to the S. of San Isidro, so we set traps in two areas: I set 30 traps, Duke set 40 in a patch 34.7 km SW San Isidro . In the area I set traps, there is an open understory, a few saplings, vines and logs/stumps, leaf litter floor. Sort of dry- there is a banana planting on one side of the strip of forest, which is ~ 50 m wide,
