E. Heske 1982 Journal San José, San José Prov. to Turrialba, Cartago Prov., Costa Rica July, cont. towards Turrialba and set traps in a patch of forest along the Rio Revelzon, 5.6 km NE Turrialba. I set 30 traps up a 60° slope in some fairly mature forest along the river bank (see map) - Phil set 60, Duke 40 in this same area. Phil set 30 more, Duke 30 more in some secondary along Hwy 10 nearby. I set 20 along a stream in some secondary that ended up being mostly cane. The forest looks pretty good - the type of dense overstory but fairly open understory where we've caught Heteromys before. Steep slope, though - leaf litter floor, some spots with lots of vines. Many leaf-cutter ant trails. Spent the night in Turrialba. Hotel = $150. Turrialba, Cartago Prov. to Limón, Limón Prov., Costa Rica 30 July Arose 0630. Slight overcast, but no rain. Vegetation is wet, but prob. from humidity/dew... I caught 1 Heteromys in the forest and nothing along the stream.
