E. Heske 1982 Journal Tilarán, Guanacaste Prov. Costa Rica July, cont. and was still raining when we went to sleep... Tilarán, Guanacaste Prov., to San José, San José Prov. CR July Arose 0630. Still overcast, but rain has let up. I caught 1 Liomys salvini in the traps set near town, Phil + Duke caught Ø. At the riparian site I caught 4 Heteromys, Phil caught 1 Heteromys, Duke cought 5 Heteromys and 1 Oryzomys fulvescens (looks just like a small Reithrodontmys.) We returned to Hwy 1 + drove back to San José – scattered showers most of the way, rain in San José. Stopped briefly at the University to arrange for lab space tomorrow, then [illegible] checked into Hotel Cocori on Av. 3, Calle 6 – only ~$400 for a room. Headed out of town towards Escazu to look for a place to pick up some Liomys. Stopped along the road at a spot 4.6 km W. of Escazu along Hwy 7. Simply because by now it was $1700 (and raining...) I set 23, Phil set 30, Duke set 30 – area is surrounded by coffee plants – a small patch of disturbed forest, dense undergrowth with patches of herbaceous ground cover, dense vines, bamboo... not very promising in my opinion. Returned to San José, had dinner, turned in ~2200. Still raining. San José + vicinity, San José Province, Costa Rica 27 July Arose 0630 – overcast with occasional drizzle. Drove back to Escazu to check trap lines – the only
