Tilarán, Guanacaste Prov., to San José, San José Prov. CR
July
Arose 0630. Still overcast, but rain has let up.
I caught 1 Liomys salvini in the traps set near
town, Phil + Duke caught Ø. At the riparian site
I caught 4 Heteromys, Phil caught 1 Heteromys, Duke
cought 5 Heteromys and 1 Oryzomys fulvescens (looks
just like a small Reithrodontmys.) We returned to
Hwy 1 + drove back to San José – scattered showers
most of the way, rain in San José. Stopped briefly
at the University to arrange for lab space tomorrow,
then [illegible] checked into Hotel Cocori on
Av. 3, Calle 6 – only ~$400 for a room. Headed
out of town towards Escazu to look for a place to
pick up some Liomys. Stopped along the road at a
spot 4.6 km W. of Escazu along Hwy 7. Simply

I set 23, Phil set 30, Duke set 30 – area is surrounded
by coffee plants – a small patch of disturbed forest,
dense undergrowth with patches of herbaceous ground
cover, dense vines, bamboo... not very promising in
my opinion. Returned to San José, had dinner, turned
in ~2200. Still raining.
