E.Weske 1982 Journal Playa del Coco, Guanacaste Prov., Costa Rica 24 July, cont to go to the festival... Less than expected, but nice all the same. It was more or less just like a county fair from western u.s. (cattle, horses...) Guanacaste really is sort of a "wild west" province- has a gancho-sort of flavor (cowboys + all...) met some gf + spent the night in a disco...disco sucks. on the drive from Liberia to Playa del Coco (3-4 am) saw 1 roadkill mephitis macroua, 1 live mephitis, a family of Procyon lotor (1 adult + 2 yng), 1 Didelphis, and 3 or 4 cats.... Too bad we didn't pick up the road kill, because I've just noticed in Hall+Kelson that M. macroua has never been reported from CR, and I'm positive of the ID on both animals. 5 July Playa del Coco to Tilarán, Guanacaste Prov. Costa Rica Arose ~ 0830 - had breakfast + poked around most of the morning until we finally left the hotel at ~1100. Drove back along Hwy 1 to Cañas, then E on Hwy19 to Tilarán . Checked into a hotel - $100 for a fairly new + nice place. By now (1400) it's raining again. Drove back to our riparian trap site 3.7 km NE of Tilaran and set traps in the wooded area by the stream on either side of the road - I set 30, Phil 40 - Duke was gone for quite awhile and set 80-. We also set some traps in a small disturbed patch of woods right near town - I set 20, Phil set 20, Duke set 10. It rained all afternoon
